When Austin or someone he knew went to NC, he sent them searching for it. After awhile, we could get it in VA, and talk about a happy boy!
About two weeks before his 14th birthday on August 4, he called and said “Grandma, you know how much I love Krispy Kreme doughnuts?! They are making Cheerwine doughnuts! All I want for my birthday is a Cheerwine doughnut! The only thing is that you can only get them in NC.” I told him to find the closest place where we could get them, and we would go.
I began to look on the web. I contacted Krispy Kreme in Winston-Salem, NC, and they were good enough to give me the phone number of a location in Virginia Beach, VA. I called and spoke with James, the manager, who listened to my story (I told it with great passion.). He said he would see what he could do. Then he said, “Oh, what we won’t do for our grandkids! I know…I have some of my own.”
I called again the next day and spoke with Tyler, another manager. After telling him my story, he said James had told him about me, and they were going to send Austin some doughnuts. I was so pleased.
The day before Austin’s birthday, the Cheerwine doughnuts were delivered to his front door, along with a handwritten letter. Seems they made them special for him. From start to finish, it was a birthday to remember…what a happy guy!!
Thank you, Krispy Kreme and all the employees of your store in Virginia Beach, VA, for helping a boy’s birthday wish come true! You are indeed a company that cares. From the heart of a grandmother.
